The majority of the weekly Papal Masses are held at St. Peter’s Basilica, which has a large capacity of more than 15,000 people, comfortably accommodating most Papal Masses. However, on certain occasions when a larger crowd is expected, such as during special events, the Holy See may decide to hold the Mass in St. Peter’s Square instead.
The Pope typically holds regular Wednesday Audiences, but there may be instances where he is away on a pastoral visit within Italy or abroad, or he may be enjoying the Italian holiday season at his summer residence in Castel Gandolfo during the month of August. In such cases, the scheduled Audiences may either be canceled or relocated to Castel Gandolfo.
If you have a verified invalidity of more than 74%, you can enjoy free admission to the Vatican Museums as a disabled visitor. Furthermore, a free entry ticket is also available for a companion accompanying visitors who are not self-sufficient.
It is important to note that these free entry tickets are not available for purchase. They are distributed directly at the special permissions and/or reception desks in the museum hall upon presentation of a valid invalidity certificate. To ensure a smooth visit, a companion of a visitor with a disability is given priority skip-the-line entry when necessary.
For those who require a wheelchair, they can obtain one for free from the Museum cloakroom, provided they present a valid ID and make a deposit.
Visiting museums or sites can be challenging for persons with disabilities, and many might not be aware that they are entitled to free admission. The Vatican Museums staff is always sensitive to the needs of visitors with disabilities, and they have designed free tours for Blind and Deaf visitors upon request. However, please note that visitors with disabilities are not able to tour the Vatican Gardens due to accessibility limitations.
The hotel pickup and drop off service involves being picked up from your hotel and transported to the Vatican City for the holy event, and then being dropped off back at your hotel after the event has concluded. This service can only be selected at the time of booking your tour.
The hotel pick-up and drop-off service is not included in the tour price and is optional. If you wish to avail of this service, you must select it during the tour booking process and an additional fee will apply.
For those who opt for the Hotel Pickup option, the tour provides exclusive pick-up services from centrally located hotels or “bed and breakfasts” in Rome. However, if you choose not to use this service, the meeting point will be located conveniently near the Vatican. The specific details for the meeting point will be provided after the tour confirmation. Please make sure to arrive at the meeting point 25 minutes before the scheduled time as tickets are time-sensitive and we cannot accommodate late arrivals.
The Papal Audience is a significant weekly event where Pope Francis addresses an audience of faithful followers and visitors from around the world. During this event, the Pope gives a speech, and bestows blessings upon the attendees, which is also known as the Apostolic Blessing.
The Papal Audience usually takes place on Wednesdays, and it’s a special moment for Catholics to come together and receive guidance and inspiration from the Pope. The speech is often followed by prayers and some singing, which adds to the spiritual atmosphere of the occasion.
For those who attend the Papal Audience, it is a memorable experience to witness the Pope’s presence and hear his words of wisdom. Many visitors also feel moved by the collective experience of being part of a larger community of believers who share their faith and devotion to the Catholic Church.
Proper attire is essential when attending a Papal gathering. To maintain the dress code, please follow these guidelines:
While the Papal Audience provides an opportunity to see the Pope, direct interaction with him is not possible. However, there are other occasions where you can catch a glimpse of the Pope. The Angelus Praying and the Papal Blessing on Sundays at the Vatican are two such events. If you are interested in attending these events, please check out our other Vatican tour options.

Certainly! However, please note that St. Peter’s Basilica has specific opening hours and may be closed on certain days, such as Easter, December 24th and 31st, and during other religious holidays. Additionally, the Basilica is primarily a place of worship and may be closed without warning for religious activities. In such cases, alternative dates may be offered for your visit.
Normally, visitors can walk directly from the Sistine Chapel to the Basilica through another entrance. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this entrance is currently blocked, and visitors must exit the Vatican and enter St. Peter’s Basilica through a separate entrance. As a result, group tours currently do not include St. Peter’s Basilica.
