About Papal Audience

The majority of the weekly Papal Masses are held at St. Peter’s Basilica, which has a large capacity of more than 15,000 people, comfortably accommodating most Papal Masses. However, on certain occasions when a larger crowd is expected, such as during special events, the Holy See may decide to hold the Mass in St. Peter’s Square instead.

The Pope typically holds regular Wednesday Audiences, but there may be instances where he is away on a pastoral visit within Italy or abroad, or he may be enjoying the Italian holiday season at his summer residence in Castel Gandolfo during the month of August. In such cases, the scheduled Audiences may either be canceled or relocated to Castel Gandolfo.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ 1Who is eligible for free entry tickets to the Vatican? Where can I purchase a free entry ticket for visitors with disabilities?

If you have a verified invalidity of more than 74%, you can enjoy free admission to the Vatican Museums as a disabled visitor. Furthermore, a free entry ticket is also available for a companion accompanying visitors who are not self-sufficient.

It is important to note that these free entry tickets are not available for purchase. They are distributed directly at the special permissions and/or reception desks in the museum hall upon presentation of a valid invalidity certificate. To ensure a smooth visit, a companion of a visitor with a disability is given priority skip-the-line entry when necessary.

For those who require a wheelchair, they can obtain one for free from the Museum cloakroom, provided they present a valid ID and make a deposit.

Visiting museums or sites can be challenging for persons with disabilities, and many might not be aware that they are entitled to free admission. The Vatican Museums staff is always sensitive to the needs of visitors with disabilities, and they have designed free tours for Blind and Deaf visitors upon request. However, please note that visitors with disabilities are not able to tour the Vatican Gardens due to accessibility limitations.

FAQ 2Could you please provide more context or information about the topic to help me better understand what you would like me to rewrite?

The hotel pickup and drop off service involves being picked up from your hotel and transported to the Vatican City for the holy event, and then being dropped off back at your hotel after the event has concluded. This service can only be selected at the time of booking your tour.

FAQ 3Does the tour price include the hotel Pick Up/Drop-off service?

The hotel pick-up and drop-off service is not included in the tour price and is optional. If you wish to avail of this service, you must select it during the tour booking process and an additional fee will apply.

FAQ 4What is the location of the meeting point?

For those who opt for the Hotel Pickup option, the tour provides exclusive pick-up services from centrally located hotels or “bed and breakfasts” in Rome. However, if you choose not to use this service, the meeting point will be located conveniently near the Vatican. The specific details for the meeting point will be provided after the tour confirmation. Please make sure to arrive at the meeting point 25 minutes before the scheduled time as tickets are time-sensitive and we cannot accommodate late arrivals.

FAQ 5What should I anticipate during the Papal Audience?

The Papal Audience is a significant weekly event where Pope Francis addresses an audience of faithful followers and visitors from around the world. During this event, the Pope gives a speech, and bestows blessings upon the attendees, which is also known as the Apostolic Blessing.

The Papal Audience usually takes place on Wednesdays, and it’s a special moment for Catholics to come together and receive guidance and inspiration from the Pope. The speech is often followed by prayers and some singing, which adds to the spiritual atmosphere of the occasion.

For those who attend the Papal Audience, it is a memorable experience to witness the Pope’s presence and hear his words of wisdom. Many visitors also feel moved by the collective experience of being part of a larger community of believers who share their faith and devotion to the Catholic Church.

FAQ 6What is the appropriate dress code for attending Papal gatherings?

Proper attire is essential when attending a Papal gathering. To maintain the dress code, please follow these guidelines:

  1. It is required to cover your shoulders and knees.
  2. Shorts are not allowed.
  3. Skirts should be worn below the knee and should not be excessively short or long.
  4. While a head covering is not mandatory, it is recommended to protect yourself from the sun.

FAQ 7Can I have an audience with the Pope?

While the Papal Audience provides an opportunity to see the Pope, direct interaction with him is not possible. However, there are other occasions where you can catch a glimpse of the Pope. The Angelus Praying and the Papal Blessing on Sundays at the Vatican are two such events. If you are interested in attending these events, please check out our other Vatican tour options.

FAQ 8What additional advantages are included in this tour package?

If you opt for the “Special Papal Audience Tour with Professional Guide and Hotel Pick Up and Drop Off,” you will receive the following benefits:

  1. The ticket reservation fee is included in the tour price.
  2. If you choose the hotel pickup and drop-off service during the tour booking process, you will receive this service.
  3. You will have an exclusive invitation and access to attend the Papal Audience.
  4. A professional tour guide will accompany you throughout the tour.
  5. You will receive real-life commentary from the guide.
  6. An audio headset will be provided to ensure you can clearly hear the guide during the event.
  7. The tour provides a semi-private experience.

FAQ 9Is it allowed to bring bags during the tour?

Small bags with essential items are allowed during the visit. However, it is not permitted to bring large bags or luggage to the attraction.

FAQ 10Can I avail any discounts?

Certainly! Discounts are available for children aged 0 to 6 and young tourists aged 7 to 17. Additionally, students under 25 years old can also receive discounts, but they must present a valid Student ID to prove their eligibility. The discounts apply to the total price of the tour.

FAQ 11Can European citizens avail discounts?

EU citizens between the ages of 18 and 25 are eligible for reduced-price admission tickets, while EU citizens between the ages of 6 and 18 may be able to obtain complimentary tickets. However, please note that some attractions may require full-price admission regardless of EU citizenship or age.

FAQ 12Is the tour suitable for children?

This tour is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

For children between the ages of 6 and 18 who will be joining the tour, they must be accompanied by an adult.

FAQ 13Can I visit this place if I have difficulty walking?

Unfortunately, the sites are not accessible for individuals who use wheelchairs or have walking disabilities. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

FAQ 14May I know the context of the visit? Is it related to the Papal Audience tour or a general visit to St. Peter's Basilica?

Certainly! However, please note that St. Peter’s Basilica has specific opening hours and may be closed on certain days, such as Easter, December 24th and 31st, and during other religious holidays. Additionally, the Basilica is primarily a place of worship and may be closed without warning for religious activities. In such cases, alternative dates may be offered for your visit.

Normally, visitors can walk directly from the Sistine Chapel to the Basilica through another entrance. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this entrance is currently blocked, and visitors must exit the Vatican and enter St. Peter’s Basilica through a separate entrance. As a result, group tours currently do not include St. Peter’s Basilica.

FAQ 15Is it possible to cancel this tour?

Once the tour is booked, it falls under the “All Sales Final” policy, which means that it cannot be canceled, and no refunds will be issued.

FAQ 16Can I receive a refund if I am late or fail to show up for the tour?

We highly recommend arriving at the tour meeting spot 25 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Please note that it is the customer’s responsibility to arrive on time. Unfortunately, if you are late or unable to attend, we cannot accommodate you as we will have already departed for the tour with other participants. Additionally, the ticket price for the Vatican tour is non-refundable, and it is not possible to cancel or obtain a refund for the Vatican ticket. Therefore, if you miss the tour, you will not receive a refund for the ticket.

FAQ 17If you need to cancel your tour, whom should you contact?

You can reach us at +39 081 188 16603 OR +39 327 742 0062 if you need to cancel your tour, and our customer service team is available from Monday to Saturday, between 8 am and 4 pm.

We recommend reviewing the other cancellation-related FAQs for this tour, as well as the Cancellation & Refund Policy provided by “Explore Italy Today”, before proceeding with your cancellation.

FAQ 18What essential travel items related to Covid-19 should a traveler remember to bring on the tour?

We at “Explore Italy Today” strive to provide you with accurate and up-to-date information.

As per the latest COVID-19 regulations, tourists are not required to present a vaccination certificate, test certificate, or “Green Pass” to enter the Colosseum or other places like restaurants, museums, and historical sites.

Please note that wearing a mask is mandatory when visiting the Colosseum. Failure to comply with this rule will result in denial of entry. Additionally, your temperature will be checked at the entrance, and entry will be refused if it exceeds 37.5C (99.5F).

While in the open-air areas of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, the mask requirement may be relaxed. However, a mask must be worn when entering the Roman Forum area.

Please refer to the Covid-19 Travel Notice for the latest travel updates during the pandemic.
